Happy Birthday to The Boss, Bruce Springsteen born on this day in 1949 in Long Branch, NJ and one of The Garden State’s favorite sons. Although I was born in NYC, and have lived all around the US with a brief time in the UK, I consider myself a kid from Jersey and The Boss was the soundtrack to my youth.
Some of the greatests memories I have are listening to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band blasting from the speakers at the water slide on Manasquan Beach. I met him many times over the years; from working out in the same gym to running into him on the street he was always gracious and happy to shake a hand and offer a thanks when given compliments on his music.
He was the greatest storyteller in my youth and the reason why I still believe that all design begins with a story that connects with the audience; because without that you only are broadcasting, not conversing. Real design engages with its audience, invites them in, and builds a relationship that can survive and endure for a lifetime, if done with authenticity.
