As with many portraits, one is merely is state moving towards another purpose. The top stage involved the most painting and work to reach a satisfactory likeness of Ms. Wiesz. From there, the goal was to give it an air of antiquity related to the essense of the film which led to a wet plate interpretation of the portrait.
