Art, illustration, design is never simply a straight line to completion. Often times it takes not only fits and starts but also winding paths to reach a destination; which might be temporary. This portrait of Denzel Washington exists in multiple states of imagining from a fully realized illustration to an experimentation of techniques to replicate natural media in the digital world.

This summer has been terribly busy getting a new fintech platform ready for market so there has been little time to devote to illustrations. However, these sketches paint out a portrait of the legendary Denzel Washington in his new role of Macrinus from the upcoming Gladiator II film; Ridley Scott’s sequel to the original blockbuster.
