Alien Day
Alien day is a nod to LV-426, the planet where the crew of the Nostromo first encounter the alien Xenomorph.
Xenomorph
What most refer to as simply the alien, is a endoparasitoid extraterrestrial species created by the late Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger, know professionally as H.R. Giger.
Ron Cobb
Ron Cobb was a gifted artist who worked on concepts for the film; creating everything from spaceship designs to iconography used for the ships wayfinding and computer systems.

Licensed Artwork
Alien and Star Wars are two franchises we have spent an inordinate amount of time exploring. Alien is the first film franchise we have created licensed artwork for as part of the anniversary celebration of the sequel, Aliens. You can find these illustrations in the Aliens Artbook, a collaborative art project from Printed in Blood.
Tricentennial Patch
Another set of designs by Ron Cobb, to the left is one of the crew patches that celebrates the 300th anniversary of the United States of America. The patches below were other crew items for the costume and set direction.

For this year’s celebration we have added some new illustrations created just for the day as well as other recent sketches and paintings to share and celebrate the day as well. Click the image for a larger view of the artwork.
Sigourney Weaver
Although originally written as a male protaganist, Sigourney Weaver got this role early in her career as a budding actor. Her performance in this film garndered critical and commercial success and cemented her as a rising star with her dramatic depiction of Ellen Ripley.
H. R. Giger
Giger’s work was as much a reason for the success of the film, and ensuing franchise, as Ridely Scott and the casts tremendous work. Although he claimed he didn’t receive as much credit for his work, it is clear that any alien, monster, or boogyman created since this film has used the Xenomorph as inspiration either in its design or ruthlessness as a villain.
Many of these pieces hearken back to H.R. Giger’s tremendous body of work and influence in our popular culture.
You still don’t understand what you’re dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.
